<---- New Report for the Tuesday evening session.
Wetsand and Surfline are dueling at informing us about the swell headed our way. It appears that around 9:30 last night the Harvest bouy started to see some 20 second energy, but a little visual check I did this a.m. showed no great improvement in the waves in the greater Goleta area. I have no doubt that there is stuff out there, but it may take a trek.
Y'all have a good Thanksgiving.

<---- New Report from Saturday
A Scud Missile was supposed to be launched from Vandenberg last night at 00:15, but thus far no news from any Vandenberg peeps.
I'm kinda low on surfing news and am seriously out of touch so someone please send me something worthwhile to post about the Santa Barbara surf community.

<---- New Report from Wednesday.
So as seen in the report
I bought a 1960's Velzy Pig that I'm going to try to get wired. If this works out I'll sell the Dan-O and be back to a 2 surfboard man. It's a dilemma though, can I really make a classic board be my sole longboard? Will I learn how to handle it without a leash without killing anyone in the lineup? Can I switch between my 2000's shortboard and my 1960's longboard quickly without having to re-learn the board every time? We'll see.
A bad surfing week for me. Missed the waves on Monday, looked flat on Tuesday, floundered trying to get the Pig wired on Wednesday, looked flat on Thursday, but maybe today I'll get something and redeem it all.
It seems we always have a swell during thanksgiving. Or maybe it's because I always spend thanksgiving in Ventura and Ventura always has waves. Remember the thanksgiving swell from last year? Both Wednesday and Thursday were some of the best waves I caught all winter. Wednesday was the "100 foot wednesday" at Mavericks. Well it seems Wetsand has a history of over-pumping swells up....but they are saying we'll have swell over turkey day. If you have to fly to Iowa to visit relatives, I'm sorry.

Surfed Tourmaline in Pacific Beach on Saturday but missed the waves we had up here on Sunday and Monday. Apparently yesterday was a pretty fun day in these parts. Kristi reported her best day of the season out at Coal Oil Point, and others wrote in about a classic Santa Barbara fall day of surfing. Trying to catch the tail end of the swell I went by at lunch today but it was fairly flat so no surf for me. rats.
Check out this NY Times article on the Imperial Beach Pier, which is the only pier in California where fishermen can use a bow and arrow.
I was just convincing a friend recently how safe oil tankers were.

<---- New reports for Thurs and Fri.
Conditions seem the smallest all week today and saturday should be similar or even smaller. In which case, perhaps you need to take your new RC surfer. You can even check out this little dude rip up an overhead wave on this video.

Glorious weather with some swell breaking in brown water that is starting to form sandbars.
This morning NPR had a profile on "All Things Considered" on Ventura icon and Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard. If you missed it check it out here.

Judging by the bouys the big band of swells that were supposed to start filling in on wednesday and peak today has arrived. sadly, with it came the rain. enough rain to clean those streets and creeks of all the crud that has gathered in them during our drought. i myself have gotten self-absorbed in renovating a house which has swallowed all of the free time my day job allows me. I did take a gander at it today, and it seemed big but not huge, however very messy and dirty. To me it wasn't worth it, but there were some folks out there surviving the victory at sea conditions. I suppose the swell should be around after the storm blows over and that could be fun conditions (yet dirty). Water Quality testing won't happen again until monday, so if you see anything floating by you, don't swallow any water.
Check out the artwork of Sean Kirkpatrick, who is often featured at the Natural Cafe . There are some excellent paintings and photos up there, even a foto of Rincon. Don't forget the graphic design section featuring such items as menus from Bill's favorite apri-surf place Baja Grill and local surf paintings such as "Mesa Lane Lineup"
Updates may be slow next week too as I continue my learning curve of tearing a house apart and putting it back together. If you are a tradesmen in Heating, Plumbing, or Flooring and can hook a brother up, let me know. Also if anyone has any stories or photos from this swell/storm let me know and i'll post it to make up for my lack of info.

The (grainy) Title picture up above is one I took last Wednesday after I got out of the water.
Here's a pic without a surfer but with a ruler next to it. I'll try to get more pics from that swell up someday soon.
Oh, and tomorrow is election day. GW wants you to vote, do you need any more reason? Some big elections happening are the Capps/Rogers race here along the coast as well as the Gail Marshall recall vote. Ventura is deciding if they should allow 1390 new homes to be built over 10 years in exchange for 2800 acres of open space, LA is deciding if they can hold on to Hollywood and the Valley, and our entire state is wondering if we'll ever be presented with a candidate for governor that we actually respect.
