Today is the first day in 2 weeks or so that the Harvest Buoy has been small. That and an approaching storm front means it might be a slow end to the 2003 surf year.
An update on the surfing scholarships... if you have any questions you can call Billie at 687-6065.
My email address is getting 100's of SPAM's a day, so if you email me, make sure you use a eye catching subject. Happy New Year.

It is actually impossible to keep up with all the surf reports right now due to how many days of great waves we have been getting. Just go to the December Reports and see what is up for now. I will try to get caught up by the end of December.
Tommorrow, Tuesday the 22nd of December is our largest tidal swing of the year. From a high of 7.3ft at 8:17am to a low of -1.8ft at 3:39pm, we'll have over 9 feet of tidal swing in under 8 hours. You could explore tidepools and watch mad seawall carnage all in one day.
Willis Brothers Surfing is online.

Hey High School Senior Surfers:
The Groundswell Society appears to have a scholarship available thru SB Scholarship.org. According to the press release you have to be a Senior graduating in June 2004 from Goleta to Carp and heading to a full time college next year. The press release says something about being on a surf team/club at your school, but their email release says no such thing, so say you are part of the SBS Surf Club. No word on how much the scholarship is good for, it probably depends on how much dough they bring in from the Rincon Clean Water Classic which is Feb 28-29 2004. If you can find out any more information then I've already posted, you certainly deserve the scholarship. Applications are due January 30, 2004. Update: Call 687-6065 if you have any questions.

The most hyped swell of the winter thus far came and went over the weekend. A jog around a flat Coil Oil Point on Friday showed the swell hadn't came yet but surfers were doing spot checks at the rate of one every few minutes. The swell didn't really start to come around Point Conception until 1:00 or so in the morning on Saturday, and held on the Harvest buoy around 10-11 feet for 24 hours before degrading. This meant that with crazy 6.0 high tides in the am, minus tides in the pm, and a 5:00 sunset, SB had a very small window to grab the peak of the swell on Saturday. Pope went out along the PCH on Saturday. Sunday the swell had dropped quite a bit, and by Monday the swell was probably gone but their was something in the water still.
This Sunday evening at 5:30 is Santa Barabara's "Parade of Lights" down at the Harbor. Don't forget you can also book the "Trolley of Lights" running every evening at 6:30 on tours of Lit up Homes by calling 965-0353 for $15 per adult.
Wetsand Magazine is under new ownership and with a new name, now called "Blue Edge", it's newest issue is now out for free at surf shops and the like. The December issue of Outside Magazine has a story about Keith and Dan Malloy along with Brenden Aroyan crusing the coastline above Gaviota on Hybrids (Update, Surfer Magazine has a better article on the adventure). Also, Wetsand.com has a 4Mb Quicktime video of a local spot on a good day.
In other news Wetsand.com owner Henry Schulte is trying to work out a deal to build some houses on Rancho Dos Pueblos land to pay off the inheirentence taxes he will soon be forced to pay.

New Reports from Dec 1 and 2 at Deveraux.
Lots of chatter amongst surf starved surfers and forecast sites about waves on the way. The only prediction I'm making is wicked crowds and a lot of boards on car roofs over the next few days.
