The IV planning meeting apparently was supposed to just be about "environmental impacts." I don't think anybody knew this until they got into the room tonight, as even the county's website made no mention of this limitation, which I believe took many people off guard. However, the speakers talked about anything that was on their mind, from holier than thou over the top meddlers with way too much time on their hands to mom's who just wanted to be able to park to go to the food co-op. Surfers like Cary Penniman, Matt Graham, Ken Palley, Scotty Bull and Paul Franzen spoke with authority on why free beach access is needed in IV while on the other side we had characters such as Dianne Kahn and Robert Bernstein taking the opportunity to explain their grand plan on automobile usage in the USA.

Another meeting is planned that will provide a better opportunity for people to offer their comments, although I'm unsure of the date on that one. You still have until March 23rd to submit your written comments though:

Joy Hufschmind
County Public Works Department
123 E. Anapamu St.
Santa Barbara, CA 93101

If you just can't get enough of these planning meetings keep in mind the Joint Proposal for the Ellwood-Devereux Coast people will present their plan this April 4th.
