Surfrider reminds us that the deadline for the public comment period for the proposed IV Parking Plan is today at 5:00. If you haven't already, drop a note to Joy by 5:00:

Or you can try emailing Joy (this address is unverified).
Surfrider also discovered that the much anticipated IVParking.org is now online, including the proposed rates. Interesting that the public comment period is ending smack in the middle of the UCSB spring break, another victory for the small group of people pushing this plan through. You gotta love government bureaucracy on this one, kids, the proposed plan is to charge each car $125 a year for the right to hunt for a spot in IV. This will generate over 1 Million dollars, of which Half a Million Dollars goes into 8 new county employees. Would you like to head into IV at 6:00pm, eat at The Cantina, go get a snack at the IV Food Co-Op, raid the bin candy at IV Market before heading over to watch the Lady Gauchos earn a berth in the Sweet 16? That will cost you the first two hours in parking fees ($3.00), but wait theres more because under the current plan the meters will only hold 45 minutes worth of coins.
Then of course there is surfing. Of the 70 free parking spots in IV, 65 of them are where we park to surf Deveraux and Sands. 65 spots to not only handle the beachgoers like us, but also cheap students and employees who will discover our little parking niche and cause mad chaos. Surfrider tells us the Board of Supervisors is tentatively planning on hearing this on May 4th.
