National Surf League

New report from Wednesday.
Burke passes along this Wetsand Article which explains why Spring is windy, and why this Spring is windier than most which contributed to the Ekman Currents that drove our water temperatures down a few weeks ago.
The National Surf League is in it's Sophmore year with one new team and mascots and logos and avid fans. Our local team is the Ventura Pelicanos which represents Ventura and Santa Barbara and includes surnames like Curren, Malloy, Reynolds, and Martinez and is coached by Davey Smith. The NSL homepage, although filled with flash craziness, is full of information. Los Pelicanos host their home game on May 4-8 at C-Street and face off against SD, LA, OC, and SC in that order. More info on that game coming soon. Here's the rundown on the team names:
San Diego Sea Lions
Orange County Octopus
Los Angeles Arc Angels
Ventura Pelicanos
Santa Cruz Stormriders
The Third game starts tommorrow at Oceanside Pier and currently is looks like those Santa Cruz Stormriders are the team to watch out for.

A new report from an offshore Sands session on Wednesday.
The Santa Barbara Surfrider Foundation and average folks like us scored a huge victory when it comes to parking in Isla Vista yesterday. Newspress article archived here reports that the Coastal Commission sent the County back to the drawing board. The best part is that people are starting to cry out for UCSB to become involved in this problem, as best said by Sabarina Venskus, "the county needs to figure the problem out with UCSB, not put it on the backs of coastal access users."
All who park in IV for coastal access owe those hearty people who had the patience to insert themselves into the mire of bureaucracy to get this done.

Sands report from Tuesday.
Surfrider's Appeal of the I.V. Parking Plan has successfully been added to the Coastal Commissions meeting here in town. The hearing is Wednesday, April 13th at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Santa Barbara. Agenda is here and Surfrider is predicting that the IV Parking issue will be on around 10am. The Coastal Commission does not take emails, and it's too late for USPS, so the best way is to show up and either speak or drop off your letter.
