New Reports
The buoys rang in at 20 seconds early in the weekend but the waves rang in at knee to waist high. Friday at Sands saw some small yet early 20 second forerunners. Saturday at Rincon saw a little more size. Sunday at C-Street saw some nice sets that were getting destroyed by intense Santa Ana's. Monday at Sands saw an uptick in buoy size and some long lulls producing three waist high waves. Photo by Dubock from Saturday in Ventura.

Bobby Martinez Mania
Although Bobby has already clinched his WCT berth next year, he does not appear to be letting up on the remainder of the WQS season. He was ranked #3 on the WQS before the OP Pro Hawaii and now the two surfers ahead of him have already been knocked out. That means that by making it to Round 4 Bobby has leaped over Shaun Cansdell to be #2 on the WQS. #1 on the WQS however is Adriano de Souza who had a 2,691 point lead over Bobby before this event. Mathmatically Bobby would have to get in the finals of this event and the Sunset event while Adriano loses early at Sunset to win the WQS for 2005. Chances are Bobby's next heat is around 12:30PST on Tuesday. De Souza might bet watching it nervously from shore.

Go Pro Hero Review Update
The inventor of the Go Pro Hero water camera emailed us in response to our Go Pro Hero Review. We've included his informative response in the review and pledge to try the camera again with better film in better light.

Rincon Parkway Parking
According to Paul Jenkin from Ventura Surfrider, day use parking may get easier along the Rincon Parkway (aka PCH, Gold Coast Beachbreaks, etc) between Solimar and Emma Wood:
Surfrider members have worked for years to try and keep the Rincon Parkway open for day use. We opposed increased RV parking that would decrease our access to park and surf at the beaches. But since that victory, a common complaint has been that the RV's have ignored the no parking signs and still taken up day use areas. The parking fines were not much more than the camping fees, so they just paid the tickets. In response to this issue, the County has raised the parking fines. So please be aware that a parking violation along the Rincon Parkway will now cost $90, but for good reason.
This should open up a lot more spots along that stretch of coast which has been taken over in recent years by miles and miles of RV's.

Bobby Martinez in the Triple Crown

Thursday, November 17, 2005

At the first event of the Triple Crown, local boy Bobby Martinez came in 2nd in Round Two yesterday, where he had huge gouges in sizeable waves. Today he surfed in Round Three against Sunny Garcia, Tim Reyes and Jihad Khodr. Sunny got the first perfect 10 of the event on his first wave to lock in 1st place in the heat, but Bobby got a pair of 7's to secure 2nd place in the 8-10' surf. Next up for Bobby is Round 4 against Kaipo Jaquias, Luke Stedman, and Jake Paterson which could take place tommorrow or not.

Post Swell Wrap-up

Wednesday, November 16, 2005

We had a steep NW swell filling in Friday evening and leaving today. It's angle made waves smaller south of Pt. Conception but here is a myriad of reports seeing what could be found in the south county. Photo: Dubock.

Friday at Sands
Saturday at Rincon
Sunday at Rincon
Sunday at Deveraux
Monday at Sands
Tuesday at Sands

An interesting update from a reader on last Tuesday's Sands session. This information is not posted to scare or deter surfers from surfing.

"I just wanted to notify (if you are interested) that Tuesday morning I got bit (or pinched) by some sea-animal while paddling out (in fairly shallow water) at Sands... Big blue crab? Stingray? Little shark? Who knows... The cut wasn't very big, just deep, and it caused my ankle to bleed for a while and then get very swollen later that day (and still is now). Anyway, moral of the story: be careful when you step around shallow water at sands.

More of the story has been added to that days surf report. Also Monday's surf report got updated because the dolphin encounter was left out.
