Snowy Plover Program Seeks Help
The Snowy Plover Docent Program is looking for volunteers to "help protect the coastline so that people and wildlife may continue to use it together." A public tour of UCSB's Coal Oil Point Reserve along with docent training is Saturday, September 2nd, from 9am to 1:30pm. To register, call (805) 880-1195 or email stroh@lifesci.ucsb.edu.

Wounded Soldiers Hit the Waves
The SLO Tribune has a good story about Central Coast surfers getting together to teach surfing to soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Santa Maria Times followed up on the story also and KEYT has some video. Rodney Roller, a Pismo beach surfer and amputee, can often be seen surfing the Pismo Pier and in the Pier parking lot where he rides his bike to. He's a loud fellow in the Northside lineup and tough to miss.

White Ford Explorer

Tuesday, August 15, 2006

A few weeks ago at the top of the stairs leading down to the Rincon Indicator, there was a note saying to be on the lookout for a White Ford Explorer who's passengers kept stealing stuff in the parking lot. The sign had the first few numbers of the license plate, which we were going to post here until we forgot them. Bear tips us that KCLU is reporting this morning that a white Ford Explorer has been caught for a string of thefts. Here is to hoping it's the same dude.

In more local news, Timbers is back for you post-surf grub, and the Hollister Ranch/Gaviota Beach bridge proposal was shut down by the CCC.
