We'll be out of country surfing for the next week so don't expect content on the site until October 4th or so.
Here's a reader update about the 'sighting' at Sands:
I paddled out near Ellwood that same night around the same time. That night was one of the foggiest I have encountered. We're talking pea-soup, scary movie thick. I could barely see 10 feet in front of me. The tide was extremely low and the waves were breaking really close to shore. It was a totally spooky night and I could see imaginations running wild.....Just my two cents.

Rincon Poo Barrels Endangered
Last night, the Carpinteria Sanitary District board unanimously approved a plan to switch 156 area beach-side homes from septic tanks to sewer lines. KEYT and Heal The Ocean have the scoop. This is good news for Rincon surfers.
Snowy Plover Docent
The Snowy Plover Docent program has confirmed something that might be of interest to Goleta area surfers. For those that surf near Coal Oil Point and would like to park at West Campus, now you can volunteer with the Plovers and surf afterwards:
People who volunteer (with the Plover program) can park inside the gate for recreational purposes if it is before or after their volunteer shift.
More info on the Snowy Plover program and how you can volunteer to be a docent is on their site.
Shark Crazy
Never a good thing to hype sharks, and yet the temptation is too great. Avila has had it's share of shark sightings and beach closures in late August. The Shark Research Committee also talks about a Sands sightings which sounds fishy to us.
Nathan Todd Cool
The guy who does the surf reporting for Wetsand.com was interviewed by the Ventura County Star recently and the story is here.
Bobby Morris
Bobby Morris is on the cover of Surf Circus Mag, which is a new magazine about surfing from Santa Cruz to Ventura. Speaking of Bobby, he didn't win any WQS contests in Europe this summer, but there is another short Glas film of him up online.
More..
SB Surf Grls now has their own website, for all you ladies looking to surf with other ladies.
Sometime ago, we posted about the remote control surfer. Although we've yet to try it out yet, there are some videos of it on this site.

It's been a long time since Santa Barbara Surfing has been updated because it's been the end of summer conditions: small waves and many out of town trips. We're getting ramped up to be on top of things again now that fall is starting to show itself. Still no activity in North Pacific, but some windswell coupled with a slight chill in the air has us thinking it can't be long...
Trestles WCT Event
Bobby Martinez is surfing down at Trestles for the only WCT event on mainland of USA. Today he won is three man heat. Wild card venturan Dane Reynolds had a very good heat with some amazing moves, but lost to Kelly Slater. Tommorrow he'll have to upset Mick Fanning to continue on. He has nothing to lose and was letting loose.
Moving Surf Pictures
Morgan has some video footage of Leanne Curren surfing in town, which was around the same day we caught some stills. Morgan is also working on a surf movie called "Belly Up" which can also be seen online and is full of local footage. More info on when the full movie can be viewed as we get info.
