FINAL ARDEN TAYLOR BENEFIT ~ SURFING TO SUPPORT LOCALS
Benefit Surf Contest Takes Over Surfer’s Point, Ventura March 24-25

VENTURA, Calif. (Feb. 12) – The Arden Taylor VIII Surf Benefit, hosted by the Ventura Surf Club, is slated to be held Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25 at Surfer’s Point (C Street) in Ventura.

In addition to the surfing, the weekend will be full of raffles and camaraderie with the World Champion Tandem Teams lift clinic and Surfin’ your Size division. It all gets underway at 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 24th.

The longboard contest is open to all and registration fees are $55. Online contestant registration, a list of divisions, driving directions, and hotel information can be found at www.ardentaylor.com. You can also purchase raffle tickets in advance at the webesite.

This year’s event will be in loving memory of Ted Stinson, a beloved member of the Ventura Surf Club. Ted’s history with Arden Taylor Surf Benefit is enriched with the label of ‘Beach Marshall’ in all past seven events. A super star volunteer gentleman with pure aloha spirit that will be greatly missed.

The final ATSB will also include three benefactors, Gary Holly, Nailhead, & Bob Vangelisti. Holly, a well known surfboard shaper from Santa Monica is dealing with Stomach/Intestinal Cancer. Illustrious Nailhead from the ever popular SaltWaterDreams.com Surf Forum is 38 years old and presently on a donor list for a liver transplant in the San Diego area. Vangelisti is suffering from Mycobacterium Avium-intracellvare (likeness of TB) is seen everyday from the shoreline of the ‘Bu with his breathing apparatuses, making his way into the water for a single wave when the conditions are right.

Last year’s memorial descendants Larry Ugale Jr. and Emma Herrera, in addition to other family members of past ATSB recipients will be in attendance to this final event. “People have such big hearts and that is what makes it come together and work. Our goal this year is to raise everyone’s spirits and share good feelings. For these reasons the Arden Taylor Surf Benefit has become an annual event.” Says Keith Akins ATSB co-founder.
In addition to the previous Arden Taylor recipients, proceeds from the ATSB may also benefit charities such as the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and the Humane Society.

The inaugural event was held in 2000 for Arden Taylor, a 42-year old surfer diagnosed with inoperable brain tumors. Word spread fast throughout the tight-knit surfing community, and the Ventura Surf Club organized a benefit. Since then, the event has been held each year to assist families with the challenges that face them on a daily basis.

Raffle prizes and monetary donations are being accepted and all donating outlets will be recognized throughout the weekend via posters, flyers, and public address announcements. In addition, each donor will be touted online at www.ardentaylor.com and www.saltwaterdreams.com.

To make a donation or for more information on the Arden Taylor VIII, please contact Keith Akins at 805.643.7972.
