Bobby Martinez at JBay

Current World #17 Bobby Martinez of Santa Barbara is surfing well at the Billabong Pro at JBay, South Africa. He won his Round 1 heat to advance straight to Round 3 which he again won by a good margin. The contest has been on hold for the last few days, but when it starts for Round 4, Bobby will surf against Aussie Dean Morrison who shares the 17th overall place with Bobby. Only the top 15 surfers are guaranteed to re-qualify for next year, and with the season half way through, Bobby needs a good showing here.

In other pro surfing news of local interest, The US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach started today. Local surfers Cory Arrambide and Colin Schildhauer are seeded in the trials, and Tyler Anderson and Tom Curren are seeded in the main event. Dane Reynolds of Ventura, ranked #9 on the WQS and likely to qualify for next years WCT tour, is also seeded in the main event.
