Site Status
First up, yes the site hasn't had much content up. Summer doesn't usually offer much in the way of surfing in town. On top of that, Pope was injured in May and was out of the water for over 2 months. Try writing about surfing when you aren't surfing (hint: it's not fun). Now that pope has re-established his surfing ability we can launch into a slew of surfing content. Just in time for our favorite season: Fall. (Photo: Morgan Maassen)

Pro Surfing Of Local Interest
Mark emailed in (a long time ago) with the status of Venturan Dane Reynolds on the WQS tour. He was correct that Dane qualified for next years WCT, as he is currenlty #2 on the WQS. Look for him to blow some minds next year.

Meanwhile Bobby Martinez could be classified as having a Sophmore Slump this year. Reader Burke submits this synopsis:
Bobby finished 17th at Trestles, as he lost to Adrian Buchan in rd. 1, beat Gabe Kling in rd. 2, and lost to Shaun Cansdell in round 3. Bobby now stands rated at #17, with 4 events left, and with 2 scores to drop, of course. I too, am pulling for him to make it into the top 27; he should do well at Mundaka, where I think he may have won last year?

For Our Over 21 Readers
We get a slew (sometimes a slough) of emails from marketers wanting to post stuff, most of which we ignore unless it has some local content or is charity based. This following one however begs to be posted:
In doing their part to keep the Pacific coastline beautiful, Alaskan Brewing Company has decided to donate 1% of the proceeds from their new, surf-inspired IPA to the Coastal CODE, an initiative formed in partnership with the Ocean Foundation that supports clean, healthy oceans.
Sand in Goleta
Is it just the observation of this surfer, or is there a severe lack of sand at some of the Western Goleta Beachbreaks? Albeit our data set is limited, but we've never seen such steep cobblestone beaches at the end of summer before any storms have come. It's quite a downer because it's made these beaches waveless (more waveless than usual that is). Is this from the mild winter last year not replenishing the beaches? Comments welcome.

Quantum Shift
This just in from Cory:
I want to let you know about a campaign that we are promoting with Quantum Shift TV called "Be the Change! Share the Story!" Bob Burnquist, Rob Machado, Geoff Rowley, and Jamie Bestwick have already signed on to be contest judges, so the action sports world is definitely showing its support for these important issues. In a nutshell, "Be The Change! Share The Story!" is a contest that lets kids interact using new technologies as they participate in social and environmental projects that will help to change both their local community, and the world. "Be the Change! Share the Story!" is open to students in grades 1-12 across the United States and Canada, and winning schools will receive over $200,000 in cash and educational resources.

Morgan Water Housing Shots
Watch out folks, local photographer/video maker Morgan of bogus-media has a water housing now, and his first test down at the wedge is pretty cool.
