Goleta General Plan

We've got to admit, we aren't up to speed on Goleta politics, but we've gotten a few emails from people wanting to spread the word about some changes to the Goleta General Plan that might be detrimental to many surfers. We've posted some info below, an Indy article here, and a comment form (Due October 31st) you can email to the City of Goleta. Read on and decide for yourself if you want to take action:
Corporations and organizations trying to make 77 amendments to the existing General Plan are rallying their supporters to send in their comments. If you want to keep the protections of the existing plan, PLEASE send in your written comments.

You can write just to say that the proposed changes to the General Plan are NOT ACCEPTABLE. Or you can say in a few words why you oppose changes. Here’s a BRIEF SUMMARY OF REASONS PEOPLE ARE OPPOSING MANY OF THE PROPOSED CHANGES:
1. People object to one of the biggest proposed changes, changing the verb “shall” to “should” throughout the plan (contrary to other General Plans). Such changes would turn General Plan policies into mere guidelines, creating uncertainty, wasting taxpayers’ money and slowing decisions.
2. Some people object to the proposed amendments would allow more Regional Big Box stores - more congestion on Hollister and 101
3. Some object to changes that would reduce environmental protections such as reducing buffer for creeks, bluff and butterfly habitats
4. Some object to the changes (33 were proposed by Bacara) that would reduce public access to beaches and promote more luxury condos near the beach.
