Also Tonight: A-Frame Movie For SBJH Surf Team

Thursday, April 26, 2007

This Thursday night (4/26), the SBJH Surf Team will feature the surf premier of the A-Frame Movie, live music from Amateur Sam, and a Silent auction at the Marjorie Luke Theatre from 6:30-9 pm. All ages welcome! We will be premiering "A-FRAME THE MOVIE" created by local Chris Riel and some footage from Aaron Ernst. This film was collaberated over the last year with footage as old as 3 years shot mostly here on the South Coast. It features spectacular grom surfing and local young guns from the A-Frame surf team as well as big guns such as Bobby Martinez, Tarik Kashoggi, Tom Curren and Aaron Ernst. The movie is about an hour long.

Also, Chris Keet, Chad La Bass, and Jermiah Esparza aka Amateur Sam will be performing original surf jams prior to the movie’s showing from 6:30-7:30 pm. Some wonderful local businesses and companies have donated cool silent auction items also up for bidding. A concession stand with food will also be available in the lobby of the SBJH.

This will be a fun night and hope to see you there. Spread the word and tickets are sold at the door for $10.

Proceeds benefit the SBJH Surf Team and a percentage raised will be donated to start scholarships and funding to under privileged children in the area.

Surfrider Meeting: Yvon Chouinard

Thursday, April 05, 2007

"Santa Barbara Chapter Surfrider Foundation is excited to host guest speaker, Yvon Chouinard, founder and owner of Patagonia at our Chapter General Interest Meeting Thursday April 5th, at 7:00 PM at the SB Public Library Faulkner Gallery (40 E. Anapamu).

He will discuss Patagonia's new surfboard manufacturing and business philosophy, the company's new approach to wetsuits and his recent making of the cover of Fortune Magazine! An open Q & A will follow.
Superb rock climber and alpinist, innovative ice climber, surfer, world class fisherman, tennis partner of Harrison Ford, business leader recognized by President Bill Clinton, Yvon Chouinard has led a storied and passionate life. He has skied Andean volcanoes, made first descents on Montana rivers, bone-fished Christmas Island, pioneered Baja surf breaks, and put up new climbs everywhere from Patagonia’s Fitzroy to Yosemite’s El Capitan.

His passion for the outdoors carried over into business success and environmental commitment. After reinventing mountaineering hardware in the 1960s, Chouinard started outdoor-clothing manufacturer Patagonia in Ventura, California, and now donates 1 percent of sales—or 10 percent of net profits, whichever is more—to grassroots environmental organizations. In little over a decade, this has amounted to more than $15 million. In 2001, along with Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies, Chouinard founded 1% for the Planet, a nonprofit encouraging other companies to follow in Patagonia’s philanthropic footsteps.
Santa Barbara Chapter general meetings are a place to hear from remarkable speakers on interesting or hot topics in a comfortable setting. Please join us to find out what other issues and challenges face our coast and ocean and what Surfrider is doing to help. Meet like-minded individuals, contribute to the discussion, or just listen and learn."
