Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

December Overview | 1995 Overview

Date/Time:
Thursday, Dec. 21st, 8:30 am - 10:30 am
Location:
Rincon, CA
Weather:
Cold air, warming water, hazy sunshine, offshore breezes. First day of winter.
Conditions:
Very clean and very peaky under the extreme 7.1 ft high tide.
Swell:
WNW groundswell, inconsistent up to shoulder high.
Comments:
The cliffwalk was even hairier today than yesterday, and I mauled a finger on the rocks on the way out. Some of the pieces of large rock armor protecting the beach homes have been pulled away and the waves are eating away at the iceplant and dirt behind.

Got a couple good waves in past the rivermouth and somehow got a ding and gnarly scar across the lower portion of my board's nose, probably from the air drop I ate it on, trying to do a Carroll-style spin-and-stand and extended too fully trying to fit the rocker into the trough... no balance when contact was finally made.

That makes 2 years in a row that I've gotten a ding at the Indicator surfing on the highest tide of the year.

Took the board in to Jeff Jasiorkowski at Blue Shade Surfboards on Aero Camino in Goleta, he helped me out by noting some cracks alongside of one of my side fins as well as the more obvious ding. Apparently he surfed Devereux this morning and it was well overhead... Devereux is 2 minutes from my house and I never surf it... sometimes I regret it...
