Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

December Overview | 1995 Overview

Date/Time:
Saturday, Dec. 30th, 8:30 am - 11:30 am
Location:
Rincon, CA
Weather:
Warm with onshore winds/breezes.
Conditions:
Junk at the indicator, semi-clean in the cove. Generally mushy.
Swell:
Continuing small groundswell, sets waist to shoulder high.
Comments:
Almost skipped today completely after waking up at dawn to find windy chaos at my apartment. Ate breakfast and hung out for a couple hours; the wind died down and I jumped in my car.

The Indicator was junk with two people out; I paddled out at the bottom of the Cove for a change of scenery. Easy waves (almost too easy) that lined up well with minor sectioning from wind bump.

Went out at the Indicator after a few waves; more raw power but conditions were miserable. Surfed through the rivermouth and then caught a couple more in the cove. The last was shoulder high, maybe a little larger, starting off weak but then got fast and perfect... peeling endlessly at full trim past the call box. No sections, no weak shoulder, just jamming for speed and marvelling at it all.
