The first groundswells of the winter season began to arrive this month, getting waves all the way up to overhead. Mostly peaks rather than a good wrapping wave. South swells also came on after a summer-long flat spell. The new board came out of the shop, a fun 6'6" Channel Islands thruster with hard turned-down rails, excellent drive, carve, and fabulous recovery from any situation. The only downside from the old 6'5" Watermans Guild board is a slight decrease in paddling speed -- no problem once I get in shape.
Out of 9 reports, got good surf 6 times. Average wave height was in the chest high range.
