Rincon looked lame, so we opted to bail and head north. After 1 1/2 hours of driving, pulled up to an empty lineup and clean conditions.
Paddled out through the new rip to the north of the takeoff zone and tried to line up off the clifftops since the shoreline was obscured in early morning mist. Eventually got bearings and picked off some rights. Steep drops, a little warbly with windswell remnants from offshore mixing it up. Icy cold water from spring upwellings.
Only saw John's waves on the drops, which he managed better than I, especially as it got a little steeper with the tide push. Most of the sets closed out on the outside, but the rest was still fun and there was plenty to go around. Got one or two myself that went all the way to knee-deep inside water.
Forecast tomorrow is for a big increase out of the NW which may or may not get inside Pt. Conception.
