Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

April Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Sunday, April 14th, 11:00 am
Location:
North County
Weather:
Hazy sunshine, ultralight offshores.
Conditions:
Perfect glass, the best I've ever seen here.
Swell:
Fast-fading WNW groundswell, inconsistent sets to shoulder high.
Comments:
Met up with Brian, old roommate from Caltech, atop the cliffs. Tide was looking a little too low, but the crowd was essentially nonexistent, so we gave it a shot.

Ice cold water from the upwelling from the previous week's blowthroughs. 50 deg. F, roughly, it hurt my hands to paddle. Colder water temps than winter's coldest, by far.

Perfect shape on the waves, the rights not lining up as well as usual due to the low tide. The lefts were wally and fun. Eventually the crowd came in and we took off.
