Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

April Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Wednesday, April 24th, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Location:
Campus Point / Depressions
Weather:
Warm, with sun diffusing through thin wispy clouds.
Conditions:
Whitecapping not far outside, light onshore breezes in the lineup. Fair to poor.
Swell:
Windswell, around waist high with occasional larger peaks.
Comments:
Things didn't sound promising on the dawn weather radio check, and I didn't feel like making another gas-burning search after finding only flatness yesterday. Checked it a few times throughout the day, watching the windswell build.

The winds finally died outside my apartment while I was eating dinner, so headed over for a glass-off session. Got a lot of late, steep drops, mostly pearling. The waves were quick to hop up and had very little push before bowling over. Fun sections for doing off the lip rebounds.

Walked back around the point and got a couple of waves before all the light faded out of the sky. Very mushy there.

Rinsed off, then headed back to the parking lot. I got mauled by mosquitos while trying to change... Bettye counted over 20 bites on my back and arms when I got to her place tonight. They itch.
