Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

August Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Saturday, August 3rd, 10:00 am - 12:30 am
Location:
Sequit / Secos / Leo Carrillo
Weather:
Sun burning through morning marine layer, onshores developing.
Conditions:
Glassy and clean.
Swell:
Very small out of the south, waist high at best.
Comments:
Spent last night down in Manhattan Beach on the pier, watching a bunch of crazy lifeguards swim a relay race under the light of 2-meter diameter spotlights.

Drove northward past Sunset, Topanga, and the Bu this morning before settling on the familiar for some small waves. The 6'6" felt squirrelly and unstable under my feet after just two sessions on my new 9'2". On a positive note, I felt a lot more aware of the board and where I could place it, and I was actually in shape to paddle.

Bumped into "Zuma" after a couple of decent rides. The crowd filled in by 11:00 am along with the tide, and the sets faded, resulting in a pretty absurd overcrowded situation.

No swell apparent from Douglass yet. I have not been tracking it with much enthusiasm, but I heard it banked west, which is bad for So. Cal. despite its presence in our swell window.
