Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

August Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Monday, August 12th, 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Location:
Sequit / Secos / Leo Carrillo
Weather:
Sun and high clouds with building 15 kt.+ westerlies.
Conditions:
Fair to poor to victory at sea as the afternoon progressed.
Swell:
Fading southern hemi, waist to head high.
Comments:
Uncrowded early, sectioning and a bit bumpy but still fun. Crowd came on after about an hour, a pack of 5-10 people all paddling out to the rock at about the same time. Low tide made things a little hectic with the rocks and all sucking dry.

Grabbed one outside wave late and found myself going right for the "body rock", had to bail sideways and kick my board in what was hopefully an upward angle. Same wave someone tried to take off way deep and backdoor the section and got driven right into the big lineup rock. His board got totally eaten and the gulls immediately began circling overhead in hopes of getting bits of flesh as well... no such luck.
