Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

August Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Friday, August 30th, 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Location:
Rincon Point
Weather:
Hot blazing sun melting my wax, no wind.
Conditions:
Pristine glassy perfection. A little mushy.
Swell:
W "windswell" wrapping and peeling like a groundswell, waist to shoulder high with head high sets.
Comments:
Took out the longboard, wasn't expecting it to be more than about 2 feet on the face. Even the cove had shoulder high sets. The only real windswell indicator was a bit of groupy behavior, waves piling up behind each other every so often.

Let the shortboarders have most of the bigger and better stuff, still got some fun rides deep into the rivermouth and a lot of paddling exercise, coming back out of the cove to the top of the indicator twice.

Barrel and floater action (not by me) in the rivermouth. My best wave was a head high set (I had to get at least one), biggest yet surfed on the 9'2", just cruised it with a couple of cutbacks and shuffles to front quarter of the board.
