Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

December Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Thursday, December 12th, 9:00 am - 12:00 noon
Location:
Rincon Point
Weather:
Overcast a little fog, no wind, some mist hitting the windshield.
Conditions:
Good, a little lumpy on the high tide.
Swell:
Inconsistent and pulsing, waist high to head high with some sets pushing to overhead. The swell has dropped.
Comments:
Easy paddle out through the beachbreak by timing the sets. Too easy. Got outside and had to wait for a set. Would rather have gotten pounded getting out if it meant more waves after finally getting out there. You get what you pay for.

Very crowded considering how inconsistent it was. Big fatty triple-bacon-cheese-mushburger waves, long rides but little juice. Carvable on the bigger ones, almost a waste of energy on the smaller ones.

The shape in the rivermouth was better for a while with some good peaks and drops coming through on occasion. Felt casual on the latest drops after yesterday's sketchy reef training. Stayed out long to compensate for the inconsistent conditions.

This is my last surf and likely to be my last report until returning from the Hawaiian islands. Aloha!
