Santa Barbara Surf Report Archive
February 1996 Overview

Early on, February looked like it was going to make up for a weak first month of 1996, but it didn't really pan out. Fortunately, a decent swell managed to roll in just about every week. Unfortunately, I missed one of them.

Poor conditions and stormy weather were the norm this month. In fact, one of the better sessions was on a totally blown out day in the Cove, solid on onshore winds at the very top by dawn, but the inside maintained good size and shape regardless.

Highlights of the month were a magic sunshine cloud-clear on the 1st, and an utter pounding somewhere north of here on the 17th.

Out of 10 reports, got good surf maybe 5 times. The average wave height was in the head high range.
