Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

February Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Saturday, Feb. 17th, 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Location:
Santa Barbara County, CA
Weather:
Foggy and rainy on the drive, mottled sun and light variable winds on the beach.
Conditions:
Fair to poor with a multidirectional wind bump.
Swell:
Shifty and pounding sets from head high to 2x overhead.
Comments:
I got utterly pounded.

It was still worth it, and I was expecting it after the view from the cliffs, frequent outside sets catching the lineup off guard, closing out down the line on the rights.

The paddle out was pathetically easy, with a huge rip sucking me out to sea and no waves breaking at all in the associated channel. Passed up some easier stuff to cut across the lineup, and then spent some time getting smashed on the inside.

It feels good to be humbled every now and again.
