Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

February Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Friday, Feb. 23rd, 8:00 am - 10:00 am
Location:
Rincon, CA
Weather:
Sunny, cloud-free, and bitter cold slowly warming.
Conditions:
Excellent, a little peaky/mushy.
Swell:
Anywhere from flat to ankle high to waist high.
Comments:
A disappointment given the forecast yesterday for surf. The swell must be too north for us, since the buoys are still coming in strong, with a peak earlier at 16 ft. 17 s.

The low tide was giving the indicator and rivermouth really pitchy shape, difficult to catch with such small waves. Wiped out more than I typically do in overhead surf, mostly not making the jump to my feet in time.

Best wave was the last, a fast belly-high smoker about halfway through the cove.
