Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

January Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Tuesday, Jan. 9th, 8:30 am - 11:30 am
Location:
Rincon, CA
Weather:
Cool ... foggy ... occasional wind onshore from the fog bank.
Conditions:
Fairly clean, some small ripples here and there.
Swell:
Small and inconsistent WNW groundswell, waist high with spotty sets a little larger.
Comments:
Best wave I surfed was the first, a clean drop and smooth ride into the rivermouth. Best wave I saw was picked off by a woman just inside of me. I watched her come to her feet and begin to negotiate the drop as the lip curled over me but didn't see if it was good or bad... heard about it 15 minutes later after she paddled up from the Cove, all smiles.

Chris Brown was out in the rivermouth and just ripping it to shreds. The spray from his off the lips could be heard repeating down into the inside section like a metronome, or the Energizer rabbit, take your pick.
