Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

January Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Saturday, Jan. 20th, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Location:
Rincon, CA
Weather:
Sunny and warm, superlow tide, very light onshore breezes.
Conditions:
Variable... cleaning up as I got out.
Swell:
Building WNW groundswell, from chest high to overhead on the sets.
Comments:
The best waves I got were in the rivermouth, steep and lined up. After paddling out at the Indicator and gradually making my way to the top of the Cove lineup, I hung out there for a half hour, and the swell definitely began to push through with regular overhead sets. Kim Mearig was out in the Cove and ripped a wicked cutback right in front of me... I got covered-up by the spray.

The resurfacing of the south lot is finished.
