Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

June Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Monday, June 3rd, 8:00 am - 11:00 am
Location:
North S.B. County
Weather:
Warm sunshine, a hint of offshore haze, and developing light onshore breezelings.
Conditions:
Glassy as can be and excellent top-to-bottom shape early on low tide.
Swell:
Small S groundswell, waist to head high.
Comments:
Headed up this way after getting a surprising reading of 5 ft. 14 s. on the West Channel Buoy and other buoys north of Point Conception... possibly an unpredicted N groundswell?

At any rate, the waves were fun, wherever the hell they were coming from. Paddled here and there amongst the crowd, taking drops but not beating many sections on my backside. Eventually somehow found a fun right peak with good shape and fairly well lined-up. Had it all to myself for a little while before some others got jealous and crept up on me.

Finished off at a larger left peak and got a few good drops. The tide was starting to come in and back off the waves, so went in, feeling pretty stoked about today and the past few days of swell.

Footnote: Just checked the Southern California Swell Model, and it confirmed my suspicion of a new NW groundswell. The model wasn't showing the swell at 5 am.
