Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

March Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Friday, March 1st, 8:00 am - 12:00 noon
Location:
Rincon, CA
Weather:
Initially overcast, clearing by noon, developing onshore breeze.
Conditions:
Pristine, slowly developing a little texture by noon.
Swell:
Fun-sized new swell, setty, waist-chest high, sometimes larger.
Comments:
Heavy crowd for the size nestled up against the side of the point. Indicator wasn't really breaking; most of the waves were coming in on the inside of the rivermouth. This kept the north lot crew looking elsewhere.

Very occasional ten-wave sets (three of them in four hours) coming in better than head high... got one wave on each one, carvable and peaky, warbly shape.

Former ASP tour champion Kim Mearig was shredding today, pulling a mindblowing 360 degree floater on a rivermouth section. Aie!
