Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

March Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Wednesday, March 6th, 7:30 am - 10:00 am
Location:
Rincon Point
Weather:
Clearing conditions, light hazy tubules of cloud overhead.
Conditions:
Clean, yet mushy and windswelly. Waves piling up atop each other.
Swell:
WNW windswell from postfrontal clearing winds, with some groundswell underneath. Shoulder to head high with inconsistent sets pushing to overhead and a half.
Comments:
Chris Brown was a presence at the indicator today, picking off the best set waves and riding them to the freeway. You could hear the crowd hooting as he went down the line.

For the rest of us, mere mortals, it was fairly sloppy pickings, the windswell mixing up to give sometimes steep drops and other times a jacking peak that jacked down to flat just as fast as it peaked up.

Crowd was light so I got most of the waves that I wanted. Only a couple really good ones and I barneyed more than my share of takeoffs today, even belly dropping more than once. Fortunately quick redemption followed lameness with some nice rides into the rivermouth, cutbacks followed by rollercoaster drops as the waves piled into each other.

Eventually got out due to numb toes and tired arms.

Don't forget, the Rincon Classic is on for this Saturday, March 9th.
