Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

March Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Monday, March 11th, 8:00 am - 10:00 am
Location:
Rincon Point
Weather:
Thick charcoal grey clouds overhead followed by sunny skies and strong onshore clearing winds.
Conditions:
Fair, with shape and conditions influenced by wind bump/swell.
Swell:
Mushy set waves coming in from chest high to overhead.
Comments:
A lot larger and better than it looked from the parking lot. Like yesterday, didn't even get my hair wet paddling out over the low tide eel grass and kelp. The similarities ended there.

Soon found that the sets were mostly closing out across the indicator and to the top of the rivermouth section. Long and bumpy waves with breaking sections rather than a smooth peel, dictating primarily a constant drive to make the next section.

Spent the latter half of the session down in the cove, where the waves were smaller, slightly better lined up, and the crowd thicker. Got one or two good waves well into the inside, spent a lot of time dodging people floating haplessly in the impact zone -- gitoutamyway.

NWS is forecasting for an increase in surf tomorrow.
