Santa Barbara Surf Report Archive
March 1996 Overview

March rolled through with one serious swell, on Wednesday, the 13th. Sound familiar?

Highlight of the month was two-fold: the lucky acquisition of a new 7'2" Al Merrick-shaped Channel Islands pintail minigun addition to my quiver, coupled with the actual chance to surf it on the last swell of the winter season.

The latter half of the month was reminiscient of last summer, with long drives to find only waist-high surf and sometimes nothing at all. Clearing conditions began to kick in towards the end of the month, windswells took over for groundswells, and southern hemi swells began to trickle their way up the coast. Scored one excellent uncrowded day on my last surf of the month.

Out of 11 reports (plus one that I accidentally erased), got good surf about 5 times. The average wave height was in the waist high range.
