Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

May Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Sunday, May 26th, 1:00 pm - 3:15 pm
Location:
North County
Weather:
Sunny with north breezes. Cold water.
Conditions:
Decent, not much chop.
Swell:
New SW groundswell, waist to head high.
Comments:
Felt foolish for driving up here this late, but it was either that or hassle w/ the holiday crowds down in L.A. County. Scored clean, fun, empty cold water walls. Mostly lefts and mostly late takeoffs.

My usual spot up north wasn't breaking well, with the low tide and southerly direction making the rights totally unmakeable. Still some clean fun left peaks. Spotted a sea lion that hung out about 50 yd. away from me for a half hour or so, diving occasionally into the clear water. It even swam under me a couple of times.
