Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

November Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Saturday, November 23rd, 1:00 am - 4:30 am
Location:
Gaviota Coast
Weather:
Warm and sunny, shorts weather, strong channel winds but locally calm.
Conditions:
Fair to good. Some short-period lump coming down the line, possibly a windswell.
Swell:
Punchy from the west, head high to well overhead.
Comments:
The swell landed late yesterday just after the sun went down and peaked in the early morning hours.

Woke up early to surf Rincon on the high tide, got some exercise but it was really just a zoo. Weekends at the 'con are really just a waste of time.

After lunch headed out for a second session and scored uncrowded and pitching peaks. Pulled back from a bunch that I could have tried for. Surfer Bob went for a lot more of them and scored the wave of the day, well overhead, lining up and reeling. Having only surfed here once before, I was cautious about getting pitched and kicked out of a few that could have given barrels. Next time. Still got some fun drops and chased the sections with a little more abandon than the last time.

Forecast is for decreasing surf through to Monday when a new swell is forecast to land late in the day. As of 11:00 pm tonight the swell has already cut in half on the buoys, so don't expect to see much tomorrow.
