Santa Barbara Surf Report Archive
October 1996 Overview

October rocked for the first half of the month and by the start of the second half had basically shot its wad. Overall the surf was good and consistent when it was on with the first N Pacific pulses of the season.

Highlights of the month were the last good southern hemi swell and a fun combo south/north just a few days later. Opening day for the county's winter season landed this month. Perhaps the best part was an inspiring storm blowthrough on the 29th.

Took four days off to get married on the 26th, which will undoubtedly have all sorts of ramifications for my surfing life.

Lowlight of the month was a bang-up of my longboard when surfing a head-high-plus wave on a waist high day.

Out of 14 sessions, 3 were surfed on my longboard. Got good surf nearly half the time, none of which I surfed on the longboard. Average wave height was in the shoulder high range.
