Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

September Overview | 1996 Overview

Date/Time:
Friday, September 20th, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Location:
Sequit / Secos / Leo Carrillo
Weather:
Warm with some early morning clouds and marine layer. Sun burning thru.
Conditions:
Clean, with light onshore breezes.
Swell:
Small SW swell, not as good as anticipated, knee to thigh high.
Comments:
Saw disappointing surf at Rincon, C Street, and beachbreaks further south as I made my way down the coast. A west swell has begun showing on the buoys but did not show in the water.

At Sequit, got about 5 waves in 3 hours, followed up each one with a paddle around the buoy to get some exercise and alleviate boredom. Very weak, barely rideable, should have brought my longboard. Got some fun cutbacks, pumps, and floaters in, about 2 maneuvers per wave. Nice clear water.

The parking at Sands Beach has changed! 'A' and 'S' UCSB permits are no longer accepted, and you will be ticketed if you park there without a West Campus permit. I will post more information as I can get it from Parking Services.

This weekend down at C Street is the "California Beach Party", a two-day long event with live bands and a longboard competition. Dick Dale will be playing there on Sunday at 2pm.

At the Ventura Theatre on Saturday night is a pair of surf bands playing at the "Surfers Stomp" along with a premiere of a new Hal Jepsen longboard movie. The concert and premiere are a benefit to find a permanent home for the C Street Surfing Museum.
