Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

April Overview | 1997 Overview

Date/Time:
Friday, April 18th, 11:00 am - 12:00 noon
Location:
Rincon Point
Weather:
Overcast and foggy with building westerlies.
Conditions:
Glassy, shelter in the cove from the winds. Lumpier and uglier to the south; unrideable by Tropics.
Swell:
Very very weak, ankle to knee high, long-period.
Comments:
Took a long look at Rincon before opting to head south; took the old road to find progressively worsening conditions and complete junk at C Street. Headed back north and swung through Carp for some early lunch before hitting the water, feeling fat and happy.

Missed the best of it, earlier on the high tide some waist high lines were coming through and now there were just four or so guys on the very inside of the sandbar getting what little was coming through. Opted to paddle to the top of the cove and got a bunch of short rides on the occasional knee high set. Ordinarily would not have even paddled out, but I need to stay in shape.

Look for winter's last gasp to roll in between Sunday and Monday, peaking on Monday.
