Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

April Overview | 1997 Overview

Date/Time:
Monday, April 21st, 2:30 pm
Location:
Devereux Point
Weather:
Sunny and hot with down-sloping howling offshores.
Conditions:
Mushy but offshore and sooo clean.
Swell:
Flat to knee-high crumblers being blown away by the wind.
Comments:
Longboardable at best, about five guys out on logs and most of them struggling to keep on the wave with all the wind pushing them around. An unusual wind for this area with strong northerly flow up-channel pushing through the Santa Ynez range and locally offshore... the last time we had offshores like this was in the early morning hours of January 1st, 1996.

Nature is toying with me, setting up what looked to be an excellent winter-style fetch all last week and then breaking it to pieces with this high pressure system, capping off a flat day with perfect offshore conditions and inflaming my allergies despite the antihistamines I'm taking. So, I'm doped up and still barely able to breathe, looking at a flat ocean fanned by hot offshore breezes.

Shit.
