Longboard cool-down after a week and a half straight of
good surf. Best set of swells we've had for a long time --
even Rincon has had some little knee to waist high walls
rolling through.
Parked in the pay lot and paddled out after failing to get anything from the broken permit machine. Soon made my way over to outside the section where the point begins to wrap towards the pier... some nice sets began rolling through every 10 minutes or so and I remained alone in the prime location for about 2 hours before a few others finally began to join me. Got my first legitimate nose ride, not hanging toes over but had both feet on the front fifth of my board, trimmed out and looking over the edge. Now if I can just get there by cross-stepping. Got back to the car to find that it was ticketed; heard from a couple in the car parked next to me about what happened. The ticketing officer nailed every car he could and then went to fix the machine that he knew was broken. When they called him on it, he stated that "these surfers are out here every day, parking illegally." Maybe so, but I don't park there every day, and never in the pay lot unless I have to, and it's impossible to be there legally at all when the damn machine is busted. Sounds like the officer has gotten the "everyone is guilty of something at sometime, and since I can't catch them when they're doing it, I'll nail them now" syndrome. Hardly justifiable, and I said so in writing after hunting down the station over on Ralston and Dowell. |
