Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

December Overview 1997 Overview

Date/Time: Monday, December 1st, 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Location: Rincon Point
Weather: Warm to mild with strong westerly breezes. Dropping tide.
Conditions: Poor to terrible, with victory-at-sea conditions on the outside and lumpy/bumpy conditions in the cove.
Swell: Already-peaked and dropping NW wind and groundswell, 13 ft at 14 s on the outer buoys.
Surf: Chest high with shoulder to head high sets, some larger drops on the peaks.
Comments: More slop, looked worse than yesterday but figured I could use the exercise. Very light crowd early, with the peaks breaking things up, making waves pretty easy to come by but also shortening up the rides quite a bit.

Got a wave from the top of the cove all the way to the call box -- first call box ride of the year for me -- and that had me amped to run back out, turning what would have been a 1-hour workout into a pretty fun 2-hour session. The back half of the session didn't go quite as well, with dropping swell and a building crowd not making up for the slowly fading winds.

Look for a repeat of the past few days to roll through again on Wednesday.
