Santa Barbara Surf Report Archive
February 1997 Overview

Opening up with a repaired surfboard on the first and high expectations from the epic January surf, February was by all counts a complete let-down.

With only one day surfed at a size that I would call big, the month was primarily a long waiting period between lulls, wind, and swells that were too north to land properly on the south coast of the county.

In fact, the only real highlights of the month were an interview with the Santa Barbara News-Press and a decent amount of time spent in the water (maintaining my surf-every-other-day average).

Out of thirteen reports, got good surf only four times. Typical waves surfed averaged around waist to shoulder high. My 7'2" stayed dry the entire month (although I certainly could have made use of it), and I took the longboard out once.
