Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

February Overview | 1997 Overview

Date/Time:
Sunday, February 9th, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Location:
Rincon Point
Weather:
Thin high clouds with fascinating wave-like structure. Light breezes out of the south.
Conditions:
Fair, a little lumpy.
Swell:
Holding on, inconsistent, waist high with shoulder high sets.
Comments:
The waves are forecast to continue at least in this fashion through the next week as they did last week; rideable and right in the range between fun and boring, but nothing epic.

Took Bettye out to the indicator today with the camera, but she didn't get any pictures as the waves were not photogenic. Got mostly 1-maneuver scrappy little waves and some fun rivermouth peaks, with one really lined up wave through to the bottom of the rivermouth.

Came in through the cove on another good wave, and was amazed to see a really big beach there, with most of the rocks all the way to the top of the cove being buried under a 20-30 yard wide swath of sand. The beach atop the point has also remained very stable this winter, probably because of the lack of persistent heavy surf at times of astronomically large tides.

Anyways, in plain English, the beach in the cove is really cool and unusual. Bring your kids and make some sand castles!
