- Date/Time:
- Tuesday, February 11th, 8:00 am - 10:00 am
- Location:
- Rincon Point
- Weather:
- Strong variable winds, sunny skies.
- Conditions:
- Poor. Horrible SE bump.
- Swell:
- Good size, shoulder high plus.
- Comments:
- A bizarre wind situation today. Typical onshore clearing winds in Carpinteria, but frontal breezes blowing chop up the point at Rincon. A total mess out in the lineup.
At least it was uncrowded. The bump made the rivermouth a wide-sectioning nightmare that was impossible to beat, but still many waves at least led into it. Pumping for speed to beat the sections led to a lot of little airs over the southeasterly chop moving up the wave face.
The cove was similarly bad. But at least it was uncrowded. Repeating that over and over again on the drive back made me feel better.
The winds swung all over the place on the drive back, even turning offshore at the eastern boundary of Goleta. Odd.
Afternoon update: Clearing winds, blown-out conditions. The buoys have taken a late-afternoon wind push, with gusts to as high as 40 knots on the west channel buoy. The windswell could have the beachbreaks really pumping, but don't hold out too much hope for an evening glass-off. At least my suit will dry out by the morning, haha.
