Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

January Overview | 1997 Overview

Date/Time:
Saturday, January 4th, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Location:
Gaviota Coast
Weather:
Streaky high clouds, no wind.
Conditions:
Good. Yesterday's blow-through over by morning. Clean.
Swell:
Fading swell, waist high to shoulder high. Inconsistent.
Comments:
I try to avoid Rincon on the weekends as a matter of policy. It's just not worth the hassles. Opted for solitude, didn't get to surf the reef I was hoping to as the swell was just too small by now.

Got some small punchy waves, hollow right from the takeoff with lots of hollow sections that pinched shut before the next one approached. Good floater practice, bad barrel practice (if you wanted to get out of them).

The swell will fade through tomorrow.
