Got a few waves early, then started to have trouble getting waves to myself, then really started getting hung up by the chop and eating it a bunch. Eventually drifted through the rivermouth (sick pits) and the cove (sick longboarding drop-in kooks). Saw at least three guys get long barrels on the cove inside as I walked past the firepit.
The East Santa Barbara Channel buoy is offline and gone. The Minerals Management Service has decided to move it north to the Santa Maria basin, no longer needing it as the channel oil platforms are shutting down and being removed.
Stay tuned up on the Santa Monica Basin buoy... it reads similarly to the East Channel during winter months. The other alternative is to stay tuned to the So. Cali. Swell Model, or learn to read the northern buoys and estimate the attenuation oneself due to swell direction.
Swell should improve through tomorrow and hold through Tuesday. If conditions hold up, it may be time to break out the 7'2".
