Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

July Overview 1997 Overview

Date/Time: Tuesday, July 15th, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Location: Sequit / Secos / Leo Carrillo
Weather: Mostly cloudy with howling side-onshores.
Conditions: Poor, victory-at-sea just outside the kelp beds. Hassling, greedy, snaking crowd.
Swell: Small swell from Enrique and southern hemisphere, no data due to loss of buoy and CDIP model downtime.
Surf: Thigh to chest high with shoulder high sets.
Comments: Better strength and angle off of Enrique than Dolores, but not a lot of punch today. Perhaps better tomorrow?

Didn't get a single damn wave without someone snaking me, got sick of it after a while and when some longboarder cut back into me despite my reminding him of my presence, I reached down and grabbed his leash and yanked it hard. What ensued was a comedic scene through the racetrack of this guy leaning forward as hard as he could, standing on one foot, dragging me along behind him. Felt like I was surfing a boat wake.
