Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

June Overview | 1997 Overview

Date/Time: Sunday, June 8th, 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Location: Rincon Point
Weather: Overcast skies clearing slightly by dusk, light westerlies.
Conditions: Fair to good, some wind bump and ripples.
Swell: Punchy summer long-fetch windswell, 8' at 12 s out of the NW.
Surf: Improved from yesterday, waist to chest high with occasional shoulder high sets.
Comments: A surprising improvement from yesterday despite the weaker buoy readings and lower wind speeds up the coast. Took the longboard out into the cove but might have been able to shortboard the rivermouth judging from the surfing going on up there.

Trunked it, water was possibly a bit cool for that but I managed it without turning too blue. Got stung by a damn bee while putting my leash on at the waters edge, the little bitch just flew right up, landed between my little toe and the next one up and stung the hell out of me. And just the other day my mom was trying to lecture me about the danger of sharks in the water. Anyway, the salt water seemed to help with the swelling.

Again got lots of freeway rides from the top of the cove, a bit more sectiony and definitely more crowded, but got enough waves and the paddles back were long enough to make it a stoking blast.
