Santa Barbara Area Surf Report

May Overview | 1997 Overview

Date/Time: Wednesday, May 28th, 9:00 am - 10:30 am
Location: C Street
Weather: Hot summer day, clear skies with light onshores.
Conditions: Fair, some wind ripple and chop.
Swell: Small southern hemi swells from different directions, none over 1' in height. Also some west windswell.
Surf: Knee to waist high, weak shoulders.
Comments: Trunks! First time w/ no wetsuit since Hawaii this past December. It felt liberating.

The waves were small, breaking far offshore due to a fairly low tide this morning and not wrapping the point well due to the dominant short-period windswell. Very longboardable, though, so I took out the 9'2". Played in the small waves for a short time before heading up the stairs and back to the lot; by the time I reached the showers I was hot again.

We're forecast to get small pulses out of the S and shifting to SW all through the week to next Thursday when another S pulse will kick in. Nothing big but it should keep the surf rideable in Ventura and L.A. counties.
