Santa Barbara Surf Report Archive
October 1997 Overview

Rocktober finally happened. Our opening swell for the winter season rolled in early at the start of the month, lasting for a full five days from various swell sources... leading me to write a pretty stoked analysis of the opening of winter. Things then backed off for about two weeks before picking up again into Halloween.

Definite highlight of the month was Halloween, the opening of a new swell that hit the Fairgrounds with some great surf. It was the first time I had surfed at Stables since May and the best waves I had surfed there since starting the archive.

Lowlights of the month were a series of dings in my longboard that occurred in August but went undiscovered (as the board went unsurfed).

Out of eight reports, got good surf five times. Surfed three times on the longboard and once on the 7'2". Average wave height was in the shoulder high range.
